Lyophilized powder. Purity >95% by SDS-PAGE and Mass Spec; Gamma-Synuclein (originally known as a breast cancer gene product, BCSG1) is a 13.3 kD (127 amino acids) acidic neuronal protein. It is up-regulated in the majority of late-stage breast and ovarian cancers. A correlation has been shown between Gamma-Synuclein expression in breast ductal carcinomas and the staging of the cancer, suggesting that Gamma-Synuclein may be a potential marker for both late stage breast and ovarian cancers. More recently, it has been shown that Gamma-Synuclein promotes cancer cell survival and inhibits stress- and chemotherapy drug-induced apoptosis by modulating MAP kinase pathways.
