Apolipoprotein E is present in normal plasma at a concentration of 50 ug/ml. It serves as a ligand for low density lipoprotein receptors and participates in the transport and redistribution of cholesterol and other lipids. Also functions in immunoregulation, cell growth, and differentiation. ApoE is thought to be involved in tissue repair as increased amounts of the protein are found at sites of peripheral nerve injury and regeneration. Prepared from plasma that has been shown by FDA certified tests to be non-reactive for HBsAg, anti-HCV, anti-HBc, and negative for anti-HIV 1 & 2.
