Description:
Amylin, (IAPP: Islet Amyloid PolyPeptide) is a 37 amino acid peptide hormone that is co-secreted with insulin from the pancreas, during and after food intake. Amylin forms Amyloid deposits in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It was identified independently by two groups as the major component of islet Amyloid deposits in 1987 (Cooper et al and Westermark et al).
